Asset-Based Approach to Health Improvement

Introduction

The past few years have brought about an awareness that addressing the intricate and diverse health needs of individuals and communities may require alternatives to traditional health improvement methods. One such alternative gaining traction is the asset-based approach to health improvement that focuses on utilizing the strengths and resources of individuals and communities to enhance health outcomes. This essay aims to examine the impact of implementing an asset-based approach in nursing practice.

Asset-Based Approach To Health Improvement

An asset-based approach to health improvement is a strategy that focuses on utilizing the strengths and resources of individuals and communities to improve health outcomes. The asset-based approach recognizes that individuals and communities have assets and capabilities that can be leveraged to improve their health and well-being (Martin-Kerry et al., 2023). Positive resources available to individuals and communities include social support, cultural practices, personal skills, knowledge, and community resources.

For example, a community with a strong social support system can utilize these resources to improve health outcomes. By building on the existing relationships within the community, individuals can access information about health services and community resources. Additionally, communities with access to green spaces, such as parks or gardens, can promote physical activity and healthy eating habits.
